Problem:
A local medical practice is being supported by an IT firm 60 minutes away using a managed solution. The client is experiencing latency across the network, desktops have not been optimized in years, desktops are slow and inadequate and they’re paying a monthly fee on 7 year old machines. The infrastructure is running at 100 megabits, 10 times slower than the recommended speed. The server has no warranty, no fault tolerance or redundancy as well as it 3 service packs behind in critical updates. A backup was being done but notification was non-existent.
Actions:
Remove all managed solution agents on local desktops and local servers. Update antivirus on the server and push it out to the local desktops. Setup a Microsoft Windows Update server to push the updates to the local machines as well as optimize them. New patch cables were installed as well as gigabit switches increasing the local bandwidth 10 times faster than prior for local usage of the practice software. An extended 24/7 4 hour response warranty was purchased as backup notification was enabled. Remote monitoring software was installed on all critical devices to track Internet outages, failed backups, server utilization, critical event log tracking and chip, hard drive and hardware monitoring.
Results:
This work generated increased productivity for 30 local users, increased fault tolerance with backup notification. In the event of a hardware failure of the servers the new IT company is notified via email. A 24/7 4 hour response warranty will enable failed hardware on all servers to be replaced within 4 hours giving the client redundancy and peace of mind.
